Perils of open houses - David Lazarus, San Francisco Chronicle

Perils of open houses: "The Bay Area housing market may be on fire, but sellers (or their tenants) can be easily burned by throwing their doors open to strangers.

Devin Saylor, a real estate agent with the San Francisco office of Coldwell Banker, said an unusually bold theft occurred about six months ago at a Noe Valley home.

Someone apparently took advantage of an open house at the site to quietly unlock the garage door.

'Later on,' Saylor said, 'they came back with a truck and cleaned the place out. They took everything.'"
