Home prices boom on / Median cost for Bay Area houses passes $600,000 mark: "The typical Bay Area house appreciated a whopping $99,000 in the last year -- or more than $8,200 per month -- according to a real estate information firm.
Robust demand and stable mortgage interest rates helped push the median price for a single-family home in the nine counties to a record $644,000 in June, up 18.2 percent from June 2004. Sales of all dwellings reached 13,014, the second-highest tally for any month since 1988, said La Jolla's DataQuick."
